Deaf-Friendly Cities in the U.S.In April 2008, Deaf411 distributed a nationwide survey to deaf and hard of hearing consumers to identify what a city needs to be considered “Deaf-Friendly” in their environment. The purpose of this online survey was to identify and list cities that have made their unique environment accessible to deaf and hard of hearing residents. By providing this information, Deaf411 hopes to help hearing people, businesses, and agencies better understand the criteria and requirements needed to make their environment accessible to deaf and hard of hearing consumers who may live in their respective locations. At the same time, it is our hope that this online report will provide deaf consumers information and a list of criteria items to increase awareness on what to look for when visiting or making future relocation plans. The final Report was released in August 2009 and can be seen at: http://www.deaf411online.com/22.html.
Deaf Living SolutionsIn June 2009, Deaf411 launched “Deaf Living Solutions”, an internet video series of reports that bridge the gap between deaf and hearing communities. Each internet video report highlights specific aspects of living as a deaf consumer and what services, products or resources are available to them. Growing up as a deaf person, we miss essential information in the hearing world that otherwise can be picked up easily by hearing people through various ways: radio, public announcements at department stores, or schools, videos or TV shows that are not captioned, and in the public mainstream. This internet video series of reports provide unique insights into various ways of successful living for a deaf person. To see Deaf Living Solutions, go to: www.deaf411online.com/deaflivingsolutions
